Mile Stone Year!

This year:
  • 6 year old graduated Kindergarden
  • 11 year old, turns 12 and goes into Young Women's
  • 14 year old goes into High School
  • 17 year old, turned 18
  • 10 year old scores!  She gets to go on our "Mile Stone Year" dinner

Finally!!

I finally made some changes that aren't terrible!  It took me a few tries and I had to replace entire HTML codes twice and change my background as many times.  Then I made a new header and signature.  What do you think?  Please let me know if it was worth all of my time.

OK, so I just looked at the signature and it isn't great.  I'll work on that later.  For now, its 2:44 a.m. and I'm tired!  I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow.  The kids are out of school, the house is a MESS, and most importantly I HAVE to work on my resume blog!  I just might come out of hiding for a day or so.  I'll need opinions and maybe even a job or two!

Hair Cut

My bangs were hanging over my glasses and I couldn't see without having hair poking me in the eyes when I don't have my glasses on.  And there are only a few things worse than having flat bangs because they are too heavy right?

So I decided to go get them trimmed.  The gal who has been doing my hair for over a year quit!!!  So, thinking like an insane woman, which isn't really very different than a normal day, I had her "trim" my bangs.  STUPID!!!  I should know better.  Now I have, "did you cut your own bangs" bangs!  It should only take about 2 weeks to get them to where I actually wanted them trimmed in the first place.  Oh well, nothing I can do about it now except berate myself every time I look in the mirror over the next two weeks.

Of course I could just stop looking in the mirror, but then I would have "did you look at yourself in the mirror when you left the house" hair.  Live with my choices and learn.  HA!  I didn't learn the last time, or the time before that, or the time before that, I had someone other than "my" gal do it.  And you should see the times I cut them!  Actually, I think I could have done a better job this time.

Clear the Air

I want to make sure that you all know that just because I'm having major computer issues, besides the one with the blog, my house is not clean!  I wish it was, but I can't be two places at once.  If I could do that I'd find a way to double it and be in 4 places at once.

1) Work on the computer
2) Work on the computer
3) Clean the house
4) Spend more time with the kids just cuddling and playing together (This would be the real me!)

Of course, when I get a "real" job that pays money I'll probably be gone 10 hours a day.  If I get the job I want I'll be gone about 12 hours a day because there is a 1.5 hour travel time each way.  It pays well, has excellent benefits, and room to move up.  I'll take whatever I can get right now.

zzz...Ka-boom!

I haven't had any time to do anything on this blog at all since I "ruined" the background and the widgets.  Sometime, in the early hours of the morning.  Right after I'm done applying for jobs, trying to learn new software and programing, doing other personal legal stuff, updating the resume for the 1 billionth time, at about 5:30 a.m. I'll spend some time working on it.  I'm living on about 2-3 hours of sleep again so it may not look much better when I finally do get around to changing it.

I've decided I'm going to start a business applying for jobs for people.  I would gladly pay a portion of my first paycheck to have someone do all of this work.  I've entered my personal information (the real stuff), employment history, skills, references, and completed so many of those tests that ask you about drugs and stealing that I just might explode!!!  I better get a job soon or I'll explode poor and my children will have nothing.

The problems I'm having are the same as everyone else I guess, especially mom's looking for work.  I've been home too long so I must not have any skills or have not kept up with technology.  And/or I made too much money before I decided to stay home.  I'm studying several things to try to not only make sure I have the skills, but to be able to put on my resume that I have them.

I have excellent references and connections so I'm hoping to get something soon.  Very soon!  I'm out of money, gas, food, and am just running on empty all together.  Thank heaven's I have such great family and friends!  Without them I would for sure be living on the street.

Contacts

I remember the first time I tried on contacts.  I tried for over 45 minutes to get those things in.  After the first 15 minutes the guy said, "Oh, sorry, there's a tear in the middle".  Well!  I mean!  By the time I left I was amazed at how well I could see through such blood shot eyes.  It took me several times to get "used" to putting them in and taking them out.  But, with time, a lot of pain, time on the floor looking for it just so I could have closure and throw it away (thank heaven's for disposable), tears, and money, money, money I don't have too much trouble.  I found the best frames ever and now like using both contacts and glasses.

My son got his first contacts!  He's 18 and has been waiting for as long as we can remember to have them.  I took him in when he was 16 and they said his prescription was too high and they didn't make them.  Then when he was 17 they said they made them.  But they didn't come in disposable.  Also, they were $100.00 each.  What if something happened right? So, when he had his exam this month we were told they made disposable now!  Whoohoo!  He said, "sign me up" and we had them order a trial pair.  They have to be ordered especially so it took about 2 weeks to get them.

He's seen me put mine in and take them out, so he thought it would be a piece of cake.  Little did he know.  His prescription is so high that the contacts are pretty thick.  Also, he has astigmatism so they are not regular shaped.  The lady who was showing him how to put them in had him, what I think, doing it the hardest way.  There was no way he would get them in like that without being a contortionist. And she didn't have very much solution in the tray, and it kept dropping on the floor and all over the place because it is shaped so weird.

After he tried for about 15 minutes she came over and put them in for him!  Can you believe it?  She practically crammed them in.  Then she said he needed to take them out before he left so they knew he would be able to.  Well, he hadn't put them in really so how did they expect him to take them out?  By now he was afraid to touch his eyes.

After being there for over an hour I had to leave.  I had an appointment I couldn't miss so I told him that if he wanted to stay I could come get him later (about 1 hour later turns out) or I could have my friend pick him up and take him home when he was done.  He said he just wanted to come with me.  So, we all decided I would take him home and he could keep trying to get them out.  She said that if he didn't get them out he could sleep in them and come back the next morning.  I can't sleep in mine so I thought that was kinda funny.

I went to my appointment and when I came home he had very blood shot eyes and was practically crying with pain.  I think she put them in wrong side out and that they were dry.  There are days I still feel that way so I know how he feels. Right?  NOT!  After we both tried and tried to get them out we finally, at 10:30 at night, called the optomitrist.  Good thing he lives in our neighborhood.  He came over a few minutes later and with great effort, got them out.  It was horrible to watch!  I don't know how my son didn't scream in pain!  He had to told my son's head back on the chair, open his eye with one hand and "grab!" the contact with the other one.

He said he was surprised at how tightly they were in there and encourage my son not to give up on contacts.  It wasn't the same guy we had seen before.  He was super nice and very helpful and kind to come out at that hour.  And he didn't make us go to the office.

It breaks my heart that he had to go through that.  He is such a good kid and really wanted contacts for so long.  Today, his eyes are still pretty red, but he assures me "they feel great!  Especially after last night". I'm not sure how soon, if ever, he'll try contacts again.

Do a search for "contact lens cartoons" and you will find the funniest cartoons!
